Razorpay has enabled Apple Pay for online and in-store payments in India, allowing eligible shoppers to complete transactions using Face ID, Touch ID, or their device passcode instead of manually entering card details or waiting for an OTP. The payment option is now live with businesses including Zepto, ixigo, IndiGo, Tata 1mg and JioMart.

The move comes as digital payment authentication in India evolves beyond SMS-based one-time passwords. In September 2025, the Reserve Bank of India introduced a framework allowing payment players to use alternative authentication mechanisms for digital payments. The framework came into effect in April 2026.

With Apple Pay enabled on Razorpay, shoppers can select the payment option at checkout, review the transaction, and authenticate it on their Apple device. Cards stored in Apple Wallet can be used without manually entering card details or waiting for an OTP.

For instance, a shopper buying a pair of headphones on Zepto can select Apple Pay at checkout, choose a card already stored in Apple Wallet, and confirm the payment with Face ID, without typing in card details or waiting for an OTP. The same experience can be used at supported stores by bringing an iPhone or Apple Watch close to a compatible payment terminal and authenticating the purchase on the device.

Apple Pay uses tokenized card credentials, meaning the shopper’s actual card number is not shared with the business during the transaction. This provides an additional layer of protection against fraud and can help reduce the risk of chargebacks.

For businesses, the integration means eligible merchants using Razorpay can offer Apple Pay without building and maintaining a separate checkout flow, subject to enablement requirements. Razorpay securely routes transactions across Apple Pay, card networks, and issuing banks, and processes the domestic payment once it is authorized by the shopper.

“Paying should be the easiest part of buying something, not the hardest. People expect every experience on their mobile devices and at payment outlets to be quick and effortless, and online payments via checkout should be no different,” said Rahul Kothari, COO, Razorpay.

“Apple Pay removes much of that friction, and with Razorpay, businesses don't need to rebuild anything to offer it. It fits right into the checkout they already use, backed by the reliability and scale thousands of Indian businesses count on. For merchants, that means faster checkouts and more successful payments.”

Apple Pay is available across iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro. It can also be used on PCs through browsers including Chrome and Firefox.
